MainePERS Investment Fund Up 12.2% in 2010

The assets comprising the state’s retirement fund increased by $920 million over last year, representing a 12.2% increase.  

“These results are well ahead of our return expectations,” said MainePERS Chief Investment Officer Andrew Sawyer, “but as long term investors we are mindful of the inherent volatility (risk) associated with capital markets in which we invest.  We continue to explore strategies that will reduce the overall expected volatility associated primarily with the stock markets, without necessarily reducing our long term return expectations.”
